What is an NICEIC electrical certificate?

Electrical Inspection Certificates ensure the safety of a property’s electrical installation work with a declaration that the new installation, alteration, or addition is safe to use at the time it was put into service. An EICR issued for your property depends on the extent and type of electrical installation work, inspection and testing, that you have carried out for the building.

Do I need an NICEIC certificate?

Any domestic electrical installation work undertaken on completion is notified by your fully qualified NICEIC electrical contractor to the Local Building Control Body. Contractors registered to NICEIC Building Regulations Schemes in England and Wales are authorised to self-certify their work to the Local Building Control Body. This saves you both time and money when undertaking work that requires notification under the Building Regulations.

Who should carry out an electrical inspection?

EICR should be carried out only by fully qualified approved contractors who are NICEIC, ELECSA, or NAPIT registered electricians who can check the condition of the electrical systems against the UK standard for the safety of electrical installations, BS 7671 – Requirements for Electrical Installations (IEE Wiring Regulations).
